Hectic schedule ahead for busy Arklow boxers
THIS Saturday evening, December 7, a team of Co. Wicklow boxers will take on the might of Wexford in the second inter-county tournament of the year in Arklow Boxing club, Emoclew Road. This is always a crowd-pleasing event. Doors open at noon, first bout at 1pm. Admission for adults is €5 while under 16s are €2
Also this weekend, two of Arklow’s up and coming female boxers, Tegan Farrell and Amber Byrne, have been selected to box for Leinster girls’ squad in the prestigious England Boxing Winter Women’s Boxcup in the Guildford Spectrum Arena.
The girls will compete over two days, December 7 and 8. The Boxcup will be a very high standard as last year’s competition drew the best of English boxers including national, European and youth Olympians. This will be fantastic experience for the Arklow girls. Also travelling as team coach is Arklow’s Linda Morgan.
Five Arklow boxers boxed in the Wexford Leagues on Sunday.
Liam Molloy had a good display against Zak O’Hara from Paulstown. Jack Hudson, Darragh O’Connor and Philip Feokrytov all boxed well and won their bouts against Bob Styger of CBS, Owen Cronin from St Aidans and Noel O’Hara out of Paulstown.
Calum Roche was doing well but run out of steam in the last round, beaten in a close contest by Sean O’Connor from CBS.
Saturday, December 14, is a big event in Arklow Boxing Club’s annual calendar.
This is the club’s major sponsored tourney and this year’s tournament is changing venue to the club gymnasium onEmoclew Road where the Atmosphere is sure to be electric. Boxing starts at 6pm
The main opposition this year is Crumlin BC, Dublin, with other boxers travelling from Sligo.
