Rathdrum a runner-up in enterprise awards
Rathdrum is celebrating this week after being named runner-up in the National Enterprise Town Awards.
Rathdrum was named the Leinster regional runner up in the Bank of Ireland National Enterprise Town Awards at a gala event in the Lyrath Hotel in Co Kilkenny on Thursday last. Borris in Co Carlow took the regional title in the small (less than 2,000) population category.
The awards aim to recognise the spirit of enterprise in local areas across Ireland, bringing business and community groups together to showcase their efforts to build an economically sustainable community.
Councillor Pat Kennedy said: ‘ This is a huge honour for Rathdrum, especially coming on the back of Rathdrum winning another national competition in the Pride of Place Awards last year.
‘I would like to thank the committee and both the local and business communities in Rathdrum for working together to make this possible. I would also like to thank
Wicklow County Council for its support.’
Rathdrum received €2,000 in prize money as runner-up which is to be spent within the town. It showcased its best qualities during a visit from the competition judges in September.
‘Rathdrum has now been recognised in two national awards in back to back years and the future looks encouraging for the town,’ Cllr Kennedy added.
The title of Ireland’s Most Enterprising Town went to Kilkenny with the town winning a prize of €33,000.
