St Mary’s and St Gerard’s NS, Enniskerry: A, Junior Christmas Concert took place last Friday at 10.30 a.m. followed by a raffle. The Senior Christmas Concert will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at 7.30 p.m. Followed by a raffle and Christmas Carols. Tickets available from the School Office or on the door on the night.

Christmas Concert: Niamh Murray, Soprano and the Enniskerry Concert Choir invite you to ‘A Choral Christmas Feast’ this Saturday and Sunday in St Mary’s Church, Enniskerry at 7 p.m. Proceeds are in aid of St Agnes Centre for music and the arts, and the Enniskerry Parish Fundraisin­g Campaign. HISTORY SOCIETY

Tomorrow night (Thursday) author and historian Ken Finlay will be the guest speaker for the December meeting of the Enniskerry History Society which meets under the guidance of its president John Callan, at 8.30 p.m. in the Powerscour­t Arms Hotel, at which he will recall ‘366 Days of Dublin’ outlining events that that took place down through the years – admission €5.

This is the final lecture in the Society’s autumn programme – the Spring 2020 will commence in February and details of the opening lecture will be announced shortly.

In the meantime some events taking place which may be of interest to members and supporters of the Enniskerry History Society are tonight’s (Wednesday) 6 p.m. talk by Cecil Allen on ‘The Queen’s Theatre, Dublin’ in the lecture room of Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin two. All welcome – admission free – places allocated on a first come basis; the 7.45 p.m. meeting of the Knocklyon History Society which will hold two shorts talks – ‘A photograph­ic look back at recent society outings’ by Patrick Keys, and ‘A Visit to the Holy Land’ by John Larkin, followed by Christmas Festivitie­s, in the Iona Centre, beside St Colmcille’s Church, Knocklyon, Templeogue, Dublin 16. All welcome – admission charge, and this Fridays 11.30 a.m. talk by James Scannell, Bray Cualann Historical Society, who will recall ‘Christmas 1919 in Bray, Co. ALZHEIMER’S/ DEMENTIA SOCIETY

We meet every Friday at 11 a.m. in the Parkview Hotel Newtownmou­ntkennedy. It is an opportunit­y for family members and carers to bring their loved ones for a coffee and a chat. Its open to people in the surroundin­g areas towns and villages.

MEN’S SHED

Members are working very hard at the moment to distribute to as many as they can free firewood as a gesture of goodwill, this gift to the community is made possible through the generousit­y of one person who lives among us (and wishes to remain anonymous) such people are very rare indeed, we are very privileged to have them among us. The Men’s Shed say thank you for your generosity and for trusting us to bring comfort to people within your community.

Santa was on the phone to the shed on Friday to say he and his elves were looking forward to his visit to Season Park on Wednesday the 11th at 7 p.m. ,so be there to welcome the great man. Please keep watching our Facebook page for further movements of Santa and his Sleigh.

The Men’s Shed will meet in the Parkview on the evening of the 19th at 6.30 for our annual dinner.

Our pop up shop at Nolans (post office) is up and running in which we show item’s for sale which were made by members at our workshop in Killadreen­an, thanks to the generousit­y and help of Robert and Geraldine the shop will in a some way help us pay our way to the shed’s financial commitment­s.

On this our approach to the Christmas period, may all of us at the Men’s Shed at Killadreen­an wish each of the households in our community of Newtown and Newcastle districts a very happy and healthy Christmas, and an even happier time in 2020. er walk which will be entirely on footpaths or on the Vartry trails. Refreshmen­ts, spot prizes in and a great line up of entertainm­ent is planned after all that exercise in Kavanagh’s Vartry House. A fun afternoon for all the family is guaranteed. Registrati­on from 1.30 p.m. at Kavanagh’s with a race start time of 2 p.m.

This is an invitation to all our friends and neighbours to join us in Calary Church for the annual Candleligh­t Carol Service, which will take place on Friday, December 20, at 7.30 p.m., followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the church room. No booking is required and there is no fee, although there will be a voluntary collection near the end of the service, the proceeds of which will go to Simon, which helps young people tackle homelessne­ss, and Tiglin, which assists people to deal with different forms of addiction. The service is a collection of seasonal readings and well known carols for everyone to join in. There will also be a carol sung by Calary’s own Pop Up Choir.

There will be a dance in Roundwood Parish Centre on Friday, December 20, with music by the Wicklow Man. All are welcome.

Monday, December 16, will be the final nights bridge for 2019 and end of season prizes will be presented.

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. The numbers drawn were 8, 9, 14 and 24. There three match-three winners, Tommy reddington, Pam Harper and Alan McGrath. Next week’s jackpot will be €17,800.

SET DANCING

Our weekly set dancing sessions continue in Kavanagh’s Lounge on Thursday nights. All are always welcome – whether you have ever or never danced before Session starts at 8.30 till 10.30 and cost is still only €5 for a goodnight of exercise.

CANCER SUPPORT

The Roundwood Cancer Support centre is now up and running and is open in the Parish Centre on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. and they are currently looking for volunteers if you could spare some time in your week it would be greatly appreciate­d.
