Nell Healy Awards postponed until later date
THE Nell Healy Awards celebrating volunteerism in Wicklow Parish have been postponed until later this year when coronavirus restrictions have been lifted.
The annual awards are organised by Joe Healy in association with The Rotary Club of Wicklow, and provide an opportunity for the people of Wicklow parish to acknowledge individuals and groups or organisations who have made a real difference to their community.
This year’s awards were due to take place on April 17 but will now be postponed to an as- of- yet unconfirmed date later in the year.
Some people have already submitted nominations and these will be valid until the awards are announced.
‘ There will be ample opportunity to send in fresh nominations later this year and these will be announced in the press and local radio.
‘ It will also provide an opportunity to acknowledge some inspirational voluntary work being carried out during the Covid-19 outbreak,’ said Joe Healy.
The awards are held each year in memory of Ellen ( Nell) Healy who during her 52- year business life always acknowledged the voluntary contribution of organisations and individuals in the Wicklow community.
‘ The Nell Healy People of the Year Awards are more relevant now than ever,’ said Donal Magner, Wicklow Rotary President.
‘ The club is supporting voluntary initiatives during the coronavirus outbreak so local voluntary organisations in Wicklow Parish seeking funding should contact us.
‘ We wish our members and supporters well during these uncertain times and hope to resume our work soon.’
Apart from the Nell Healy People of the Year Awards, Wicklow Rotary Club also organises the Christmas Remembrance Tree, Rotary Golf Classic and other fund raising events.
These support local charities and voluntary organisations as well as international charities.
