THERE are still a couple of places left on a business training course run by Local Enterprise Office Wicklow on effective and practical human resource management.

The workshop will take place at Wicklow County Campus in Rathnew from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on June 9. It costs €30 to attend.

Managing staff is one of the biggest issues facing small business owners, yet many do not pay sufficient attention to their human resources obligations. Consequently, HR matters only tend to get visibility when things go wrong.

It has never been more important for businesses to recruit and retain the right staff and keep them engaged and motivated to do their best work. With the right talent and development, a company can not only beat the competition but also grow its market share.

The workshop will focus on the essential requirements that SMEs need to address in terms of successfully and effectively managing their human resources.

It will also offer practical advice and tools and an overview of HR management today. The workshop will provide a summary of key employment legislation. It will explore how to develop core HR policies and procedures and look at how to create a positive and effective working environment and team culture.

In addition, the workshop will deliver practical suggestions on how to effectively manage your staff and how to deal with problem staff, plus how to manage under performance and handle conflict.
