McNally claims national silver in hectic season
GREYSTONES & DISTRICT AC’S Ellen McNally is a long jump and triple jump specialist.
Her indoors season started at the National Junior Indoors at the Athlone IT Arena at the end of January. She won the silver medal in the triple jump with a best of 10.77m.
At the beginning of February at the Athletics Leinster Juvenile Indoors T&F Championships at the Athlone IT Arena, she took the bronze medal in the U17 girls long jump with 5.03m and at the beginning of March at the National Indoors Arena, Abbotstown, she was crowned Leinster U17 triple jump champion with a best jump of 10.69m, a CBP improvement of 28cm.
Unfortunately there is no triple jump for U17 girls indoors at the National Juvenile Championships.
Ellen had an ‘off-day’ in the long jump at the National Juvenile Championships at the end of March with two foul jumps and a best of 4.40m.
Her outdoors season started at the beginning of May at the East Leinster Schools Championships at Morton Stadium, Santry, competing for Holy Child Killiney.
Ellen won the Intermediate girls triple jump gold medal to qualify for the Leinster Schools finals.
At the Leinster Schools finals in the middle of May she took the winner’s laurels in the Intermediate triple jump with a best of 10.80m. At the All-Ireland Schools at Tullamore on June 1 her best jump of 10.73m gained her fifth place.
At the Athletics Leinster Junior T&F Championships Ellen gave her best performance of the year in triple jump with two of her jumps over 11m.
She took the Leinster crown and gold medal with a best of 11.11m.
In the Junior long jump she added a silver medal to her collection with a best jump of 5.14m.
In the middle of June at the Leinster Juvenile Outdoors T&F Championships at Tullamore Stadium, she won the silver medal in the U17 triple jump with a best of 10.80 m and added the bronze medal in the long jump with a best jump of 5.34 m, her season’s best.
At the National Junior T&F Championships at Tullamore, Ellen took the bronze medal in the triple jump with 10.80m and placed eighth of 13 in the long jump with her best leap of 5.03m.
Her athletic year drew to its close at the Athletics Ireland National Juvenile T&F Championships at Tullamore Stadium. She won the silver medal in the U17 girls triple jump with a best of 10.42 m and finished in a highly commendable fourth place of 17 competitors in the U17 long jump with her best of 5.23m.
