Wicklow has one of highest rates

WICKLOW has the fifth highest number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

According to the latest figures last updated by the Health Surveillan­ce Monitor on Monday, there are 69 confirmed cases in the Garden County.

In comparison only twelve cases have been detected in County Wexford, Dublin has the highest number of cases at 1,393 (56 per cent of all cases) followed by Cork with 217 cases (9 per cent). There are 77 confirmed cases in Galway and 70 in Westmeath.

It has been confirmed that another eight patients diagnosed with Covid-19 in Ireland have died, bringing the total up to 54 Covid-19 related deaths.

Of the eight additional deaths, six were located in the east, one in the south and in the west of the country. The patients included five females and three males.

Six of the patients were reported as having underlying health conditions and the average age of all eight deaths was 86.

There were 295 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of 1 p.m. on Monday, bringing the confirmed cases up to 2,910. 50per cent are male and 49 per cent are female, with 111 clusters involving 428 cases. The median age of confirmed cases is 47 years. 26 per cent of the cases have resulted in hospitalis­ation. Of those hospitalis­ed, 84 cases have been admitted to ICU.

578 cases (23 per cent) are associated with healthcare workers. The HSE is now working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with informatio­n and advice to prevent further spread of the virus. Community transmissi­on accounts for 50 per cent of cases, close contact accounts for 27 per cent and travel abroad accounts for 23 per cent.
