Businesses can defer rates bill

-

WICKLOW County Council has introduced a rates payment deferral process for any business significantly impacted by the Covid-19 restrictions.

In March the Government announced as part of its COVID 19 response that local authorities should agree to defer commercial rates payments due from the most immediately impacted businesses for a period of three months.

It primarily applied to those in the small and medium retail, hospitality, leisure and childcare sectors, for a three month period.

The Government announcement also stated that any commercial ratepayers that have had to temporarily close or significantly curtail their operations during the COVID-19 response period should contact their local authority in relation to any rates payments falling due in the next three months.

A spokesperson from Wicklow County Council said: ‘We are acutely aware of the potential issues faced by its ratepayers during these challenging times and will therefore be taking a pragmatic approach with regard to the application of flexible payment options in these unprecedented circumstances.’

Any ratepayer who has been significantly impacted by the COVID 19 restrictions and wishes to avail of a rates payment deferral to the end of June 2020, should email ratesdeferral@wicklowcoco. ie to officially notify Wicklow County Council of this and to outline the specific circumstances involved, such as is the business temporarily closed or has it significantly curtailed its operations.
