Wedding bells put on hold by Paddy and Caoimhe

-

A Wicklow couple’s special day is on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Tinahely and Wicklow footballer Paddy O’Rourke and his fiancée Caoimhe Bowes were supposed to say ‘I do’ at 1 p.m. on Friday last in the Church of Our Lady, Askinagap, but the couple decided to postpone their wedding until the Covid-19 crisis ends.

Speaking to this paper, Paddy said they made the decision to delay a week after the schools closed.

‘It was a tough call. Caoimhe’s sister and her family had flown home from Australia to be here. One of my best friends had also made the journey home from Australia. It was really hard in that way.’

Months of preparation have been temporarily put on hold. Much of the planning had done by Caoimhe while Paddy trained four or five nights a week with Tinahely and Wicklow football.

‘She was under a lot of pressure because I was training and playing in games. I stepped back from training a few weeks before the wedding because it was getting too close to the day.’

Patrick said their venue, the Rivercourt Hotel in Co. Kilkenny, and suppliers have been great.

‘ The venue and suppliers gave us possible new dates in June, but we decided to pull the plug until things settle down. Once this is over, we will sit down and re-organise everything. My mother is a nurse so we also had to take that into consideration.’

Their family and friends have been understanding on their decision to delay their special day, Paddy said.

On Friday, Paddy said the couple marked the occasion with a walk with their dog and a dinner.

Paddy and Caoimhe got engaged in New Zealand two years ago on their way home after spending time in Australia.
