The late Shane Surpless RIP

-

Last Friday, the sad passing of Shane Surpless of Newtownmountkennedy and formerly of Galtrim Road in Bray and late of Connolly’s Shoe Shop, Main Street, Bray occurred.

Shane passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of his wife Heather, following a long illness, fought with great courage and dignity.

Shane will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his adoring wife Heather, brother Declan, sister-inlaw Wendy, brothers-in-law Scott and Robert, nieces Hannah, Martha, Ciara and Joanne, nephews Neil and James and by his extended family and many friends.

Sincere thanks to the staff in the Oncology Unit at St James’s Hospital, Barbara and the staff at St Luke’s Hospital, Dublin, the staff at Home Instead, Bray and all the Palliative Care Team. All of whom along with Heather were able to let Shane pass away in his home instead of alone in a hospice, something that meant so much to Shane as he confirmed to a friend last week.

Some heartfelt tributes were posted on social media and all had a common theme, A Gentleman and so helpful at all times as he worked in Connolly’s Shoe Shop on Bray Main Street and was known to everyone. He loved his football also, was an avid Arsenal Supporter and a fantastic Clubman wherever he went. Shane gave Dale United great service before their demise, then had a few years with Glencormac United FC, Shamrock Bhoys, then St Peter’s and helped out with Newtown United when he moved there.

The referees also paid some lovely tributes to Shane because no matter how the game went, Shane was respectful to all. He loved is job and meeting people, going for a few pints but more so, going home to Heather and his two Westland Terriers, Ted and Tess, who are looking everywhere for their master.

Shane’s funeral on Tuesday was private as all are in these tough times but streamed live from St Peter’s Church and he was laid to rest beside his parents in Springfield Cemetery afterwards.
