Councillors agree to fill vacant committee roles
COUNCILLORS agreed to fill several vacant seats on committees during the June meeting of Wicklow County Council.
Cllr Rory O’Connor (Ind) and Cllr Lourda Scott (Green) were selected to fill the vacancy of chair of the Climate and Biodiversity Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) created by the election of former councillors Jennifer Whitmore and Stephen Matthews to the Dail. Cllr O’Connor becomes one of the youngest councillors to hold the chair of an SPC in Wicklow County Council.
It was also agreed Cllr Tom Fortune (Ind) would replace Stephen Matthews on the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly.
Cllr Joe Behan (Ind) was selected to fill the vacancy on the Association of Irish Local Government (AILG) as Cllr O’Connor (Ind) had stepped down.
Cllr O’Connor proposed Cllr Scott to fill the vacancy on the Protocol Committee created by the election of Stephen Matthews to the Dail. Council Executive Officer Lorraine Gallagher said Cllr Scott was already on this committee. She suggested the vacancy would normally be filled by the councillor who replaced them. Cllr Tom Fortune (Ind) then proposed Cllr Erica Doyle (Green) for the vacancy. The motion was seconded by Cllr Aoife Flynn Kennedy (FG) and agreed by all councillors present.
Members also ratified the appointment of Cllr Doyle to the Bray Harbour Joint Development Committee, the Greystones/Bray Cliff Walk Management Plan Sub-committee and the Special Amenity Area Order for Bray Head Committee, all of which had been agreed by the Bray Municipal District.
It was also agreed that Cllr Doyle would fill the vacancy on the Planning and Environment SPC created by the election of Stephen Matthews to the Dail.
Cllr Jodie Neary (SD) was also apppointed to the Climate and Biodiversity SPC following the election of former councillor Jennifer Whitmore to the Dail.
