Stephen Stokes does Wicklow Way for the first responders
FORMER Greystones Mayor, Stephen Stokes is walking the Wicklow Way for Greystones First Responders. The Wicklow Way is 131 kilometres in length, and was the first such trail established in Ireland.
He will commence on Wednesday, July 1, and will complete the walk in 5 days.‘I am excited to embark on this fundraising challenge through County Wicklow,’ said Stephen. ‘ The route is lined with mountains, waterfalls, forests, rivers, valleys, and more.’
He will start in Marlay Park and finish in Clonegal, County Carlow. ‘Greystones First Responders are volunteers who do not receive any financial support,’ said Stephen. ‘ They provide a life saving service before ambulances arrive.’ Normally they conduct two fundraisers per year. However due to the onset of Covid 19, their annual quiz had to be postponed.
‘ This is the first fundraiser for Greystones First Responders in 2020,’ said Stephen, ‘Every euro is vital, to pay for everything from PPE to replacing defibrillator pads after each use.’ A Wicklow Way for Greystones First Responders campaign page is now active on Go Fund Me.
