Donore Nursing Home forced to close its doors
DONORE Nursing Home in Bray has been closed and residents moved to other accommodation.
A court order was made at Bray District Court on May 30, that alternative arrangements be made for all residents of the nursing home.
Deputy John Brady asked a parliamentary question on Tuesday, June 16.
Deputy Brady asked if the HSE had immediate plans to purchase and take over the day-to-day running of Donore, a 20-bed private facility.
Fiona Hammond, general manager social care for older persons, HSE Community Healthcare East, then wrote to Deputy Brady.
‘I acknowledge receipt of your parliamentary question in relation to Donore Nursing Home, Sidmonton Road, Bray,’ she wrote.
‘On May 30, 2020, pursuant to Section 64 of the Health Act 2007, the HSE were directed by order of Bray District Court to make alternative arrangements for all residents of Donore Nursing Home.
‘Since that day, working closing with the residents, their families and the outgoing management of Donore Nursing Home, I can confirm arrangements have now been made for the safe transfer of all residents.’
The last HIQA report for Donore, published on their website in February 2019, was generally compliant in all areas.
Deputy Brady explained this week that a family member contacted him some weeks ago saying that the HSE was taking control of the nursing home.
‘ The family member was really concerned,’ he said. ‘I looked up the HIQA report and there were no red flags so I put in the parliamentary question.
‘So far I haven’t been able to establish a reason for the closure,’ he said.
The HSE said: The Court Order for the closure of Donore Nursing Home, was initiated by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) therefore any question relating to the closure should be directed to them. Donore Nursing Home is privately owned and was closed as of last Wednesday, June 24.
‘ The HSE retains no further interest in the premises since the last of the residents relocated to other care settings.’
