Man is ordered to stop persistently texting his ex-wife

-

A MAN accused of breach of a safety order was granted bail on the condition that he attends rehab as soon as possible.

The man, aged 37, appeared in Bray District Court last Thursday. The court heard an objection to bail, on the grounds that he allegedly breached the order.

The court heard that the man had sent texts to the alleged injured party on an almost daily basis, some in the very early hours of the morning, over a period of around a week.

The court heard that his reply after caution was ‘sorry, I was only texting the girls. I texted [ the injured party] when I was intoxicated.

The prosecuting garda told the court that the text messages were threatening. Solicitor Joe Maguire said that the texts were not threatening.

The court heard that the defendant had also posted objectionable material on social media, which the man denied.

Mr Maguire said that his client had secured funding for a place in rehab and was expecting a call that day.

‘ I will grant bail on that basis,’ said Judge David Kennedy. ‘ He is to go there as soon as he receives a place,’ he said, adding that there was to be no further recurrence of that contact.

He adjourned the matter for one week, to Thursday, July 2 and said the state would have liberty to re- enter in the meantime.
