Bogus water man stole jewellery

July 1983

-

A man who passed himself off as a water worker conned his way into the home of a Bray widow and stole valuable jewellery last week. According to the victim of the robbery, the man presented himself at the front door as a workman who had come to check on the water supply in the house. He convinced the woman, and when he gained access, asked her for assistance while he ‘checked’ the water system in the bathroom.

While she was engaged running water taps and holding down the flush handle of the toilet at his request the intruder had the run of the house. After he eventually departed, the woman discovered that the jewellery had been taken. She was very upset by the incident, which is being investigated by gardai. She said that she wished to relate her experience to the Bray People in order to warn other people to be on the lookout for the man.
