Road works stem from Covid-19 fund

-

WORKS have taken place in Greystones with the aim of helping to ‘re-open Ireland’.

District Engineer Ruairi O’Hanlon told members about the works during last Tuesday’s meeting of Greystones Municipal District.

Mr O’Hanlon said that the council had been asked to make submissions to the National Transport Authority for temporary roadworks. Greystones and other districts submitted their plans to Wicklow County Council.

‘We made our application to the roads section. They collated the whole county and submitted to the NTA,’ said Mr O’Hanlon.

He said that temporary and permanent works had been approved in the district.

All paid parking was removed along the main business and retail area of church road, and allocated as public space for businesses or extra space for pedestrians, to facilitate queuing and distance.

Loading bays are maintained and one or two paid parking spaces will be converted to disabled spaces.

The carriageway was reduced on Rathdown Road to provide space for walkers.

These measures are temporary. Permanent measures also in place, including are works to cycle tracks and paths at two sites.

Mr O’Hanlon said that while Church Road measures are temporary for three months, it is a long term objective in the public realm plan so this is the ideal opportunity to give it a try.

The extra space can be used for street furniture for business, or for extra space for pedestrians.
