Opinions divided on plan for Killincarr­ig scheme

CLLR Lourda Scott asked about the re-opening section of the playground fenced off for a area receding grass to be sown.

She said she is delighted to see the playground back open again in general. ‘You’d have to talk to the grass as to when that will happen,’ said district engineer Ruairi O’Hanlon. He said that nothing had grown after very dry weather earlier in the summer, and they want to make sure it takes hold before being opened. where possible as part of the design of the current scheme.

The improvemen­ts include footpath buildouts, reduced corner radii at the mouth of the Glen Road/Bellevue Hill junction, and a raised table across the junction to reduce vehicle speeds.

PUBLIC consultati­on has finished for the proposed Killincarr­ig improvemen­t scheme, members heard at the meeting.

District engineer Ruairi O’Hanlon said that there was a varied spread of submission­s.

‘Some people were unhappy about parking being removed and wanted to see more parking, some say there isn’t enough, that there should be more cycle paths and so on.

There’s quite a divide and it’s quite even. Most people are glad to see something happening.’

Cllr Mags Crean had asked for an update.

She said she heard from a man who was jogging in the area and suffered an ankle injury.

The proposed scheme will allow for improved pedestrian crossings, cycle lanes, footpaths and junction layouts.

According to Wicklow County Council, they are proposing a number of measures to improve safety, in particular for vulnerable road users.

The scheme will include enhanced pedestrian and cyclist facilities as well as calmed traffic speeds.

The plans also include some reduction in parking in the village. Other proposals include a loading bay outside the pub, florist and village store and the removal of parking spaces

The plan includes provision of a new disabled person’s parking bay, trees and bicycle stands.The junction at Convent Road will be improved by the provision of footpath build-outs and reduced corner radii at the mouth of the junction. There will be road widening to provide pedestrian outside two houses.

There will be a new zebra crossing at the northern side of the village to provide a crossing point near to the pedestrian route to Greystones.
