Track and field season completed

-

DAY four of the Wicklow Athletics Track & Field Championships took place in Shoreline on a balmy day for running last weekend.

Events event underway at 11am and organisers had it wrapped up by 1.30pm with things running very smoothly throughout.

Race of the day, according to Bill Porter, was the Junior 3.000m tussle between Eleanor Foot of Bray Runners and Alex Carey of Inbhear Dee.

These two put in a wonderful race with Foot storming home in the last lap to win by just under seven seconds.

Sile O’Byrne of Parnall AC was the Senior winner of the 3,000m with Catherine O’Connor claim the O40 title and winning the race in the ladies section and finishing third overall with Hugh Kelly and Archie Bremner of Inbhear Dee ahead of her.

Joe Dowd claimed the Boys U19 crown in the 5,000m while Parnell’s Donal Flannery was first home in the Senior men’s category.

Bill Porter said that it was a great day to bring the curtain down on the Track & Field Championships for 2020 and all eyes now turnh to the Wicklow road Race season with the first race taking place on Thursday, August 27, at Jack White’s with a 7.15pm start.
