Cracking ties on the menu

-

THIS year’s Junior ‘C’ football championship is up and running with some cracking games played and some evenly matched and others fairly one-sided.

There were wins for Tinahely and Blessington in the focus matches elsewhere on this page, over Knockananna’s second team and Donard-the Glen respectively.

An Tochar proved too strong for Barndarrig in their meeting as they cruised to a 3-13 to 1-6 victory in Roundwood.

Valleymount made the short journey down to Stratford-Grangecon and were the happier side at the end thanks to a 1-12 to 1-7 win under their belts.

Kilcoole were by far the superior team when they faced off against visiting Kilmacanogue on Thursday evening, finishing with a 2-15 to 0-5 winning margin while Aughrim got the better of neighbours Annacurra by 0-14 to 0-7.

Annacurra welcome Knockananna for their next encounter, this Friday at 7.30pm.

This should be a tough contest with little or nothing between the sides as both teams welcome back some former stars to their ranks.

Statford-Grangecon make the short hop, skip and a jump over to Donard-The Glen for their next battle this Thursday evening for what promises to be a belter with both sides badly needing a win.

Valleymount welcome Blessington for a lovely local derby by the beautiful lakes while Kilmac will face a strong challenge when early contenders An Tochar arrive looking for their second win on the bounce.

Aughim, flying high after their win over Annacurra, will make the triop to Kiltegan for what promises to be a no-mercy kind of game by the Carlow border.

Tinahely have a bye.
