Anonymous €10,000 gift for playground
A MYSTERIOUS donor has given €10,000 to the campaign for a playground in Enniskerry.
The donation was made anonymously online last Thursday evening, leaving the total at more than €13,600 of its €20,000 target.
To celebrate the launch of the fundraising campaign, the playground committee and Enniskerry Tidy Towns have joined forces to create a magnificent Halloween display in the village.
While this year’s Halloween will be much changed for children, families can still enjoy the spooky installation under the canopy at the Schoolhouse for Art.
The gofundme.ie page is entitled ‘Enniskerry Needs a Playground’.
The total cost of the playground will be €200,000.
The playground committee needs to fundraise €20,000 and then Wicklow County Council will match that sum.
The rest of the funds for the project will come from funding streams and grants applied for by the committee in the coming months.
The playground will be wholly owned, managed and insured by Wicklow County Council once installed.
It will have a woodland theme to blend in with the natural environment, and will encourage biodiversity and a wild meadow theme.
There will be a special emphasis on it being fully accessible for children with disabilities and sensory issues.
Due to the current Covid restrictions its near impossible to organise fundraising events
and that’s why the committee decided on a gofundme and an online platform to try and generate the much needed funds.
‘ Thanks to the community for the amazing support that has received so far,’ said the committee in a statement.
The committee members are Aisling Vickers (Chairperson), Roisin Briggs (Secretary), Cllr Melanie Corrigan, Eugene O’Mara, Alan Martin, Ger Driver, and Dervla Cotter.
‘One of my campaign priorities was to improve facilities for
young people in the area,’ said Cllr Melanie Corrigan.
‘It’s a privilege to work with such a hard working energetic group of people in the Enniskerry playground committee,’ she said.
The playground will have a woodland theme to blend in with the natural environment, and will be encouraging a biodiversity and wild meadow theme.
There will also be a special emphasis on it being fully accessible for children with disabilities and sensory issues.
