Wicklow homes have higher than average BER ratings

WICKLOW has one of the highest percentage­s of combined A and B Building Energy Rating (BER) certificat­es in the country.

According to figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), Wicklow has a combined A and B rating of 22 per cent.

Dublin had the highest combined rating of 31 per cent, while Roscommon had the lowest at 9 per cent.

BER certificat­e indicates your homes energy performanc­e. It is similar to the energy label for household appliances.

The certificat­e rates the energy performanc­e of your home on a scale of A to G.

A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and will tend to have the lowest energy bills. G-rated are the least energy efficient.

The total number of A ratings in Wicklow from 2009 to 2020 stands at 11 per cent.

Only County Dublin (17), Kildare (15) and Meath (15) have a higher percentage of A grades.

One per cent of homes in the Garden County have a B1 rating, 3 per cent a B2 rating, 7 per cent a B3, 11 per cent a C1, 12 per cent a C2, 12 per cent a

C3, 11 per cent a D1, 10 per cent a D2, 6 per cent an E1, 5 per cent an E2, 5 per cent an F and 7 per cent a G rating.

The average dwelling age in Wicklow is 32 years.

There was an increase in the number of BER audits reported nationally in September when the number of completed BER audits was 2 per cent above the number in September 2019.

There were just 23,353 BER audits reported in quarter three of 2020 compared with the 24,989 carried out in quarter three of 2019, resulting in a decrease of 7 per cent.
