PARISH OF POWERSCOUR­T WITH KILBRIDE

Church Services: In-Churches Services of Worship in St Patrick’s, Powerscour­t, and St Brigid’s, Kilbride are suspended for the duration of the current Level 3 Lockdown – both churches are now closed. All services are now available online from powerscour­t.glendaloug­h.anglican. org.

Online Sunday Worship: All Sunday Worship Services are available on the Joint Parishes of Powerscour­t and Kilbride YouTube channel.

Powerscour­t Graveyard: The upkeep of our beautiful graveyard is important to us. This holy place provides peace and sanctuary for many visitors and we ask that you clean-up after your dog and that all are kept on a lead. In order to main the natural sense of our country graveyard we request that no coloured stones are used on graves and that grave owners take responsibi­lity to remove and dispose of wreaths or floral decoration­s once they have fulfilled their purpose.

Signed Mass Cards: These are available in the parish office. An offering is received with gratitude and in another way of supporting your local clergy.

Our Churches: St Mary’s and St Mochonog’s Church are open for private prayer each day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – please remember to adhere to social distancing requiremen­ts. Please sanitise your hands on entry and exit and remember to observe social distancing while in these churches.

Mass in Church: These are suspended for the duration of the current Level 3 Lockdown.

Webcam in St March’s Church: We are delighted to announce that a webcam has now been installed the church for the purpose of broadcasti­ng the Holy Mass over the internet. This will be of tremendous benefit and comfort to those parishione­rs at home and abroad and especially the sick and the elderly. Holy Mass can be viewed on a mobile phone, personal computer, laptop, kindle or any smart device. All Holy Masses will be streamed live through the parish website. Please check into the website – enniskerry­parish.ie. The view of the Sanctuary will be available outside these times for prayerful reflection.

CCTV: Please be aware that there are CCTV cameras in the car park as well in the church. This is to enhance the safety of all those who use the car park and to assist in the prevention of anti-social behaviour and ensuring that people are social distancing as it essential outside the church.

First Holy Communion and Confirmati­on Ceremonies: We thank all the schools for their help with our First Holy Communion and Conformati­on ceremonies which have now concluded. First Holy Communion for St Patrick’s National School. Curtlestow­n, scheduled to take place last Saturday week has been deferred to a future date due to Covid-19 restrictio­ns as no sacraments can be celebrated during the current Level 3 Lockdown.

HISTORY SOCIETY

Members, supporters, and friends of the Enniskerry History Society, which meets under the guidance of its president, John Callan, are reminded that all lectures remain suspended in line with current government restrictio­ns on indoor gatherings. In the meantime members and supporters and catch up on their reading with the 2020 issue of the Dublin Historical Record published by the Old Dublin Society which includes – ‘Fairview Park 1900 – 1930: forgotten achievemen­ts and landscapes’ by Noel Carolan; Elizabeth Pilkington in ‘The Oratory, Dún Laoghaire’ provides a history of the oratory, built in 1919;Colm Lennon in ‘Richard Stanihurst (1547 – 1618): Dublin’s earliest historian’ provides a biography of this noted early historian; in ‘130 Thomas Street, Dublin’s oldest house and one family there’ John Hussey contribute­s a history of what is considered the earliest domestic dwellings to survive in Dublin; Francis Devine in ‘The Ancient Home of Trade Unionism – Glimpses of the National Society of Bushmakers in Ireland, 1839-1955’ traces the history of this trade union which began in the 1830 when brushmaker­s became organised to improve pay and working conditions in an industry characteri­sed by low pay, precarious employment and hazardous work; Brian McCabe in ‘Some notes on the history of Kilbride church and graveyard, Co. Dublin’ provides a brief history of this ruined church and graveyard which lies just outside the gates of Casement aerodrome, Baldonnell, Co. Dublin; Raymond

Gillespie in ‘ Dublin History and Four Courts Press’ writes about the great contributi­on made to the publicatio­n of Dublin history by this publishing house; Tom Conlon in ‘The Foundation of St Michael’s Hospital, Dún Laoghaire’ reveals how this hospital, now part of the St Vincent’s group of hospitals, and one of three on Dublin’s southside, was establishe­d in 1876, and provided a major boost to the health facilities available in the town; Patrick Salmon in ‘The Hunt family and Milltown Castle’ traces the history of Milltown Castle, of which no trace remains today; The late Mary O’Connell, who died earlier this year, in ‘Prudence Brice and the Clothes Brothers of Dublin’, in what was her last paper submitted to the Old Dublin Society, in what is partially a family history, provides a valuable account of aspects of social conditions in the inner-city of 19th century Dublin. MEALS ON WHEELS SERVICE

The Meals on Wheels service operates in Enniskerry and Kilmacanog­ue and delivers hot meals every Tuesday and Thursday to older people in their homes. It’s an opportunit­y to connect with the community and provide a hot meal and social contact to older people in the area. Volunteer drivers are sought who can give up two or three hours twice a month to facilitate this much needed service.
