This is being organised by Newtown 2050 on foot of the highly successful fundraising drive Strictly Newtown dancing in 2018. (Big thanks to Robert Byrne) It forms part of a feasibility

study for a Greenway linking the Uplands to the Sea and creating a more accessible, integrated, prosperous and environmentally focused community.

It is critical to have a say and give views for good and bad about whether you support such an effort and or want to get involved. We in particular want opinion from the rural areas especially farmers looking to farm diversification as part of their future.

It also forms part of the Newtownmountkennedy Smart Village 21 initiative by the EU, and informs a response to the Covid Epidemic.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Unfortunately for all our teams and coaches decisions made by Government last week in moving the country to Level 3 meant that all matches had been cancelled for a minimum of three weeks starting from last weekend, but that time period may be extended as it looks like the whole country will be heading into Level 4 or 5.

The FAI updated its Safer Return to Training Protocols in accordance with the new Government guidelines announced recently (October 7). We have since communicated this to all coaches and parents within the club. The aim of Newtown Juniors FC on our return to training/games was to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone, once we adhere to the guidelines laid down. Obviously if the country enters Level 4 or five it may mean no training sessions of any sort for a while. We will be continuing to update all protocols as we get them from the FAI, and we will also be holding regular de-briefing meetings with all coaches and supervisors. If anyone has any further enquiries regards the updated protocols, they can contact our COVID Compliance Officers Rory Hackett and Hughie Nolan.

We have two players from the club who are celebrating their birthdays in the coming week

and they are Harry Brown from the under-eights and Donnacha Eager-O’ Brien from the under-nines. Happy birthday lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

On a sadder note everyone at the club would like to extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Margaret McCabe (née Kennedy) (Church Road) who sadly passed away last weekend. May she rest in peace.

For further information on all matters Newtown Juniors FC please contact the secretary at 087 6987653 or by email to hughienolan@gmail.com and you can also follow the club on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

If the bottle banks in the town are full please do not leave yours around or between the full bins – this is considered dumping and fines will be issued.
