Repairs carried out on Vartry watermain

-

IRISH Water have carried out repairs to a watermain between Vartry water treatment plant and Newtownmountkennedy, alongside Wicklow County Council and Dublin City Council.

Crews worked to repair a leak on the watermain as quickly and as safely as possible and in line with Covid-19 protocols.

Irish Water have reconfigured the network to ensure continuity of supply to almost all properties, however some may experience lower than normal water pressure. Crews were working over the weekend to prepare the site for the safe repair of the watermain.

Once the repairs were successfully completed, normal water supply was restored to any impacted properties. Areas affected were Newtownmountkennedy, Killcroney, Bray and Greystones.

Some high lying areas, particularly between Vartry and NewtownmountKennedy, were impacted until yesterday.

John O’Donoghue, Regional Operations Manager, Irish Water, said: ‘ Irish Water working with the Local Authorities right across the Greater Dublin area and Wicklow is addressing a number of leaks following the recent cold spell and subsequent thaw.

‘ This particular leak was significant and we are reminding the public to conserve water where possible and to only use what they need whilst continuing to adhere to public health advice on hand washing and hygiene regarding COVID-19 while these repairs are under way.

‘ Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact, such as taking showers over baths and fixing dripping taps where it is possible to do so.’
