Dwyers and Blesso win
THE O’Reilly Cup got underway this week in 1993 in Wicklow with wins for Michael Dwyers and Blessington over Dunlavin and Baltinglass respectively.
Dwyers hammered the holders in the game played in Knockananna (2-12 to 0-2), with goals from Ciaran Boland and John Paul Foley in the opening half helping the home side to a 2-4 to 0-2 advantage at the break.
The strong Dwyers side started the second half very positively with Geoffrey Bermingham and John Keogh dominating the midfield area and the game was soon beyond a Dunlavin team who disappointed.
Dwyers full-back John Fleming is noted as the man of the match with Daniel O’Neill, Ciaran English, Enda Walshe, Gerry Daly and Liam Toomey shining bright for Dunlavin.

Blessington got the better of Baltinglass in the other game in the O’Reilly Cup in Blessington to live up to their favourites tag (2-11 to 1-9).
The visitors led at the break by two points having enjoyed a strong wind at their backs in the first half but Blessington’s Barry O’Donovan had done superbly to help keep the Baltinglass tally so low and then turned on the style in the second half.
Mark Richardson was top scorer in the game, bagging 1-5, while full-back Conor Wilson came in for special praise at full-back.
