Creative writing course with Tanya
A CREATIVE writing course for beginners with Tanya Farrelly will take place over 10 weeks via Zoom. It is part of Wicklow County Council’s resilience programme being delivered online during early 2021.
In this course, attendees will look at the key aspects of fiction writing, exploring the overlaps and distinct differences between flash fiction, the short story and the novel.
Participants will look at the importance of language and imagery in the ‘short, short story’, as well as the importance of character, plot, point of view, dialogue, conflict and setting in all three forms.
With the aid of writing prompts, participants will have the chance to put into practice what they have learned, receiving feedback on their work in a fun and supportive environment.
The course will be delivered by author Tanya Farrelly, who is an author, events moderator and creative writing facilitator.
The author ‘When Black Dogs Sing’, a short story collection (winner of the Kate O’Brien Award 2017), and two novels ‘ The Girl Behind the Lens’ and ‘When Your Eyes Close’, both best-selling literary thrillers published by Harper Collins, Tanya’s stories have won prizes and been shortlisted in many prestigious competitions, including the Hennessy Awards, the RTÉ Francis MacManus Awards, the Cuirt New Writing Prize and the William Trevor Short Story Competition. Her work has also been widely published, appearing in literary journals such as the Cuirt Annual, the Incubator Journal and
Crannog magazine. She has also read her work on RTÉ’s Sunday Miscellany.
Tanya has also recently been appointed Writer in Residence with NUI Galway.
The course runs until Monday, March 22, and you can register by visiting https://wicklowlibraries.eventbrite.ie/. Participants will need to be comfortable using Zoom.
