REMOTE TEACHING AND LEARNING

The remote teaching and learning policy at Greystones Community College was rolled out this week after meetings with the parent body, student body and teacher body last week.

The school has now gone online and is delighted to have live classes across all subjects through our digital learning platform Google Classroom. There is excellent attendance from all students in their online classrooms and feedback from the Student Leadership Team and Parent Leadership Team has been very positive.

However, we all look forward to when we can all be back under one roof together and encourage all our students to follow the Government guidelines.

STEP CHALLENGE

Greystones Community College is delighted to enter into a Step Challenge with our neighbours in Coláiste Ráithín in Bray. We hope our students will remain active during the lockdown (within their 5km exercise limit) and ask them to take a screenshot of their step count for the day. Every step counts and we look forward to sharing the schools leader board and being successful in this challenge.

HOMEWORK HANGOUTS

The dynamic teaching staff in GCC are providing homework hangouts for our students every day after school to support them with learning from home.

On Mondays we have a maths drop in session for additional maths examples and support in a small group setting.

On Tuesdays we have a Technology support session which helps our students with accessing online classes and demonstrates simple technology skills to assist with remote learning.

On Wednesdays, we have a wellness session and on Thursday, we facilitate a teamwork session where students can work in small groups on their homework exercises.

On Fridays, we have our fitness challenge for the students to get set up for the weekend. All these homework hangouts can be accessed live through the Google Classrooms.

CHRISTMAS REPORTS EVALUATION

In line with our schools drive for academic excellence, a main focus this week was our collaborative review of the Christmas examination reports.

Parents and students received the report of the Christmas results and together completed a reflection form. They acknowledge strengths, identified areas for further focus and set goals for the future. A reminder that all the evaluation forms need to be submitted online this week.

BUNCHLOCH AWARDS

The student of the month award winners were presented with their ‘Bunchloch’ for December. The Bunchloch (foundation stone) is awarded to those exceptional students who personify the three key cornerstones of GCC in all their endeavours. These students give our school a strong foundation and make us all very proud. Congratulations to Rian McCowan, Natalia Pechalska and Adam Kopec.

EXCELLENCE IN ENGAGEMENT IN ONLINE LEARNING AWARDS

Given the current circumstances, we have introduced a new GCC excellence in engagement in online learning award to acknowledge students who excel in the online environment. Congratulations to the winners, Jayden Astbury, Leonie Gerber and Karen Marsden.
