IMNDA cheque presentation

-

On Sunday morning, a fantastic presentation was made on behalf of the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association (IMNDA). Due to Covid 19 restrictions back last March, an important fundraising race night for the IMNDA was cancelled in March and never took place throughout the year.

This was originally organised by friends and family of Paddy ‘Wacks’ Byrne Jnr, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in March 2019. Paddy has received wonderful support from the association as he battles this condition that has progressed over time. In order to thank the IMNDA for all their support and services provided, a unique fundraiser kicked off in December and received unbelievable support from everyone.

All will recall Santa was stranded in Kilmacanogue after a pre-Christmas test run and the culprit turned out to be a local welder, Paddy ‘Bounty’ Byrne. It was 3,478 Kilometres back to Lapland and Santa and Paddy Jnr’s beloved friends of Glencormac United Soccer Club needed to raise a ‘Euro a Kilometre’ to get Santa back in plenty time to Mrs Claus and the Elves and save Christmas.

The donations rolled in straight away from the launch on December 1 and Santa’s journey home of the €3,478 for each Kilometre was done and dusted by 8 p.m. that evening.

The donations kept coming in and €11,020 had been raised when the appeal closed just before Christmas.

The fantastic amount was very welcome for the IMNDA who continue to provide great support and Paddy ‘Wacks’ and the Byrne family are most grateful for the in creditable support.
