Furze men take step closer to Feis glory
SENESCHALSTOWN RATHKENNY 3-9 1-6
IT wasn’t a game which will live long in the memory, but at the end of the hour it was Seneschalstown who progressed to the semi-final of the Feis Cup, a competition they last won in 2014.
Although both teams were missing some key players, neither will be satisfied with the level of performance they displayed, with a lot of play breaking down through sloppy passing, while a plethora of good scoring opportunities were missed by both teams.
Seneschalstown were off to a flying start with an Adam Carey point, followed by a Brian Sheridan goal. However, Rathkenny fought back and were on level terms at 1-2 apiece following points from Caolach Halligan and Ross Gore and a goal from Jack Gore.
Points from James Meade and Jonathan Gilsenan eventually left Seneschalstown ahead 1-4 to 1-2 at the break.
The opening score of the second half proved decisive and it fell to Seneschalstown as Gilsenanfound the back of the Rathkenny net after a pass from Joe Sheridan.
Brian Sheridan increased the Seneschalstown lead with a point, and while Rathkenny replied through Halligan and Gore they were always chasing the game after that.
Five points separated the sides entering the closing stages and the gloss was put on the Seneschalstown victory when Gilsenan struck for his second goal in the final minute.
