ON Saturday evening, Dundalk Gaels travelled to the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda to take on the O Raghallaighs.

The Gaels started brightest and opened up an early lead with half back David Moloney contributing with a couple of early scores from play. Following some great inter-play, Derek Crilly broke through the home sides rear-guard and placed his shot in the bottom corner of the net to give the Gaels a commanding lead of 1-5 to no score.

The Gaels continued to show their scoring prowess before the break and went in at half time on a lead of 1-8 to 0-2.

The Gaels now had the wind in the second half, and they continued where they left off in the first half to ensure the scoreboard kept ticking over.

The home side was in need of goals to try and close the deficit but they were unable to threaten the Gaels goals. At the other end, both Sean Fee and Gerard McSorley were denied when one on one by with the Raghs goalie.

The sides traded points from frees to open the game before Hunterstown pushed on scoring three points in quick succession with Paul Carrie and Tony McKenna doing the damage for the visitors.

Declan Byrne replied for the Mochtas with a well taken score from play but Hunterstown pushed forward and found the net with Paul Carrie firing past Conor Ryan for the game’s opening goal.

That goal seemed to open the game up and three minutes later it was the home side celebrating as Declan Byrne found the back of the net to leave just a point between the sides. Things got even better for the Louth Village side as they worked a second goal after a great move with Ultan Larney applying the finishing touches to put the home side in front for the first time.

A Glen Matthews point for Hunterstown was the last action of a frenetic first period with the Mochtas the happier of the two sides going in 2-6 to 1-6 ahead at the break.

Hunterstown came out of the blocks first after the break with Paul Carrie scoring his second goal of the game to level the scores. This momentum continued in their favour and it wasn’t long before they scored a third goal with Brendan Lennon firing into the back of the net from close range.

Four more points in quick succession from a rampant Hunterstown ended the game as a contest and despite a late
