Stabannon in control

STABANNON PARNELLS ST NICHOLAS 3-15 0-7

-

STABANNON remain in the Division 3 play-off places following their victory over St Nicholas on Saturday night.

The Parnells were never in any trouble in this game and after building up a 12-point interval lead, the result was never in doubt.

The winners were boosted when a defensive error gifted them an own goal before Colm Giggins added a second to make it 2-10 to 0-4 at half time.

Dean Smith did his best to keep the scoreboard ticking over for the Nicks, but Stabannon were always in control and sealed victory with a Sean Halpenny goal. DOWDALLSHILL recorded their second league victory of the season on Friday to move clear of the bottom of the table. In what proved to be an entertaining contest, the result was in doubt right up to the end.

The visitors started brightly and got in for an early goal thanks to Liam Campbell to go three points clear. However, Dowdallshill battled back into the contention and just before the break, Noel Finnegan fired to the net to send his team in leading by 1-6 to 1-5.

The second half also started with a Malachis goal as Collie Rooney put his team back in front and when Campbell sent over a brace of points his team were in a good position when leading by 2-7 to 1-8 entering the final quarter.

However, two goals in quick succession from Jack McGailey and Ciaran Sheridan put them back in front and their side held on for a deserved victory.
