THE Geraldines sit proudly on top of Division One following a comprehens­ive victory over the Newtown Blues in Drogheda on Friday evening.

Dara Hamill opened the scoring for the Gers with a fine point from play after good work out wide from Jim McEneaney.

However, the Blues were soon level as Colm Judge split the sticks with a fine point from distance.

A couple of more scores from the lively Judge gave the home side a two point cushion before Dara Hamill pulled a point back for the visitors.

Both sides traded points before the half ended in a flourish for the Blues with Colm Judge’s fourth point of the half leaving the half time scoreboard reading 0-8 to 0-4.

The game was turned on its head in a frenetic spell early in the second half with the Gers scoring two goals in as many minutes to turn a four point deficit into a two point lead.

The first goal came from the impressive Dara Hamill after a fine pass from Jim McEneaney and just two minutes later it was McEneaney who burst through on goal before firing past Blues keeper Danny Rothwell.

McEneaney was again in the thick of things soon after scoring a fine point for Gers after 45 minutes to increase the Gers lead to 2-6 to 0-9.

Dara Hamill extended the lead to four points before yet another Colm Judge score left a goal between the sides.

The game was decided with five minutes remaining as Stephen Reidy leapt highest to catch a high ball in the middle of the park before finding Glen Trainer who fisted the ball into the net to put six points between the sides and put the result be-
