The Clans hang on to claim the points

CLAN NA GAEL O RAGHALLAIGHS 0-14 1-10

CLAN na Gael stay joint top of Division 2 along with the Brides and Dundalk Gaels as they edged past the O Raghallaighs to set up an intriguing final round of matches.

The Clans began brightly taking control of the game with early points from Robbie Curran and Paul Gore. The O Raghallaigh’s have experienced an inconsistent campaign winning just three of their ten matches to date and they struggled early on to cope with the pace and intensity of the Dundalk side.

However, they gradually began to get into the match and with ten minutes of the opening half remaining Robert Mulroy’s second point of the evening reduced the Clans lead to a point with the scoreboard reading 0-6 to 0-5.

The Clans picked it up again towards half time with points from Mark McGeown and Leo Martin ensuring they went in at the break three points to the good.

The second half began as the first one ended with Clans tagging on a couple more scores to stretch away from the O Raghallaigh’s. When Mark McGeown sent over his fourth point of the day to send the Clans six points clear the game looked to be up for the visitors. However, there was late drama as a poor kick out from Clans keeper Sean Smith was picked up by Thomas Mullen who fired into the back of the net to suddenly leave just a goal between the sides.

Two more points quickly followed from James Morgan and Robert Mulroy and out of nowhere it was a one point game with the Clans hanging on. Unfortunately for the Drogheda side time was against them and they just couldn’t muster another chance to get something from the game.
