DUNDALK GAELS YOUNG IRELANDS 0-10 1-4

-

DUNDALK Gaels kept their promotion hopes very much alive as they beat local rivals the Young Irelands in a fiercely contested match on the Ramparts. With both sides looking towards promotion it promised to be a cracking affair and it didn’t disappoint.

With a strong wind blowing across the field and favouring no one, the first half was a close affair until the Irelanders opened up the Gaels rearguard as full back Cian O Naraigh hscored a vital goal following a well worked move that started in his own half.

The Gaels points in the first half came from Derek Crilly, Gerard McSorley as well as a couple from the reliable Jason Clarke.

The Irelanders also managed four points in the first half to go along with their goal with Dean and Derek Maguire amongst the scorers for the away side.

At half time, the Young Irelands were leading on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-4.

The second half was again a tight affair but it was one the Gaels edged as they managed to shut out their opponents keeping them scoreless for the entirety of the second period.

Right from the start they cut into their opponents lead with the impressive Jason Clarke adding three more points over the course of the half.

Crilly, David McComish and Errol Boyle also registered scores for the home side as they claimed the lead for the first time in the match.

The Gaels could have won by more as Gerard McSorley could have scored a goal when one on one with the Irelanders keeper who also saved snap shots from Crilly and Fee.

The league will now go down to the final game as the Gaels will be hoping to beat another local side Na Piarsaigh and hope their two companions at the top of the league drop points in their final league match.
