Good Friday for Luke as he bags first league goal

showed a lot of character in the team, Gallagher says that they didn’t panic and despite the pressure coming into the game they remained calm and got their just rewards.

Gallagher, a natural midfielder, has been playing this season with a variety of partners at the back in what is a very makeshift defence, but he had a lot of credit for those who have come in to play alongside him.

“I’ve just been playing there all year and I had a new partner again tonight and we kept a clean sheet and played well, you can’t really ask for anymore from a back four. All you can do is go out and do your job, we have had a lot of injuries this season and players are being asked to play in different positions, but we all just get on with it.”

Jake Hyland was the man beside Gallagher in front of McGuinness and together the duo proved to be a formidable pair but with the signing of Kevin Farragher who left Athlone Town, Gallagher may have a more permanent partner.

The defender is looking forward to seeing who Pete Mahon gets in over the next week or so, “The manager is just looking to strengthen at the moment, every team is looking to take advantage of what players are available and we’ll have a few coming in.”

While Friday’s performance wasn’t on a par with what the team are capable, Gallagher says that the result was the most important part.

“We will always go out to try and play exciting football for the fans, we aren’t a team that just lumps in forward but last week we played some good football and we lost. Tonight we really just grounded it out and got the win, that was the most important thing for us, to get the three points.”
