Quality line-up as Doubles Summer League gets under way

-

A HIGH-QUALITY quality field assembled for the start of the Doubles Summer League at Greenhills Bowls Club last week.

The first match in Category A between Sadie Campell/Tony Lacken and Karl Thornberry/Gertie Griffin was a real humdinger with Tony’s team fighting back to win the final two ends to sneak victory.

The second match in Category A saw Jein Madden/Alan Thornberry take on Sean Donnelly/Sophie Thornberry and it was a slow burner as both teams struggled early on.

Sean’s team eventually took command, but Alan’s team didn’t buckle under the pressure and battled back for a share of the spoils.

In Category B, Jimmy Flood/John Hurley took on Jack Howell/Peter Woods. The lead swung one way and then the other and it all came down to the final end with both skips drawing excellent shots to the head before Jimmy and John ran out one-shot winners.

The final match of the night in category B between Olive Clutterbuck and Claire Woods and Eugene McKenna and Josephine Moran saw Claire’s team get off to the best start possible start, taking three ends in succession going four up.

Eugene’s team found some joy in the fourth end cutting the tally down to two shots, but Claire and Olive weren’t to be denied and ran out impressive winners.
