‘Devine’ day for Duleek te

-

DULEEK & District athletes converged en masse for the recent Fingal 10K Road Race where they rubbed shoulders with Rio Olympics-bound Mick Clohisey.

The race was the second of five in the Dublin Race Series which culminates in the Dublin City Marathon in late October, and in addition it was the second outing in the inaugural Duleek AC Captains League.

This league, which is open to all Duleek club members, has generated great banter and camaraderie and these factors contributed to the large turnout as 38 Duleek representatives ensured a sea of green vests on show.

The race took part on a rolling course which started and finished in Swords village and it attracted a high-calibre field as in excess of 3,000 runners took part.

The event was won in a very impressive time by Mick Clohisey in one of his last domestic races before he joins the Irish Olympic team on the plane to Rio.

There were some equally impressive performances from the Duleek & District contingent, notably by Amy Devine who completed her first-ever 10k road race and is having a great year overall.

Peter Hearty was first home for the club and is edging back to his best form on the evidence of his impressive time of 36:47, while Fran Power also ran a very consistent race and home well inside the 40-minute mark in a time of 39:34.

There were PBs for Eric Devine and Kevin Durkin, both of whom have shown some very consistent form this season, as has Paddy Lennon who clocked an impressive personal best of 46:43. Club chairman Declan
