BOYNE AC athletes dominated the podium, scooping medals in almost every age group at the recent Setanta Games, which was hosted by Athletics Louth at Drogheda’s Lourdes Stadium.

The ever-popular event attracted competitors from across the county and the weather could not have been better as the young athletes and huge crowd of spectators bathed in the glorious sunshine.

Not to be outdone by the younger athletes, the ‘older’ members of Boyne AC also got to showcase their talents at the recent Athletics Louth Masters Track & Field Championships.

A small but mighty group took to the track in the Lourdes Stadium, testing themselves over various distances and disciplines.

Eddie Kennedy got things off to a great start for Boyne with a second-place finish in the Senior Men’s 200m, while Amy McTeggart easily won the Senior Women’s event and also took gold in the javelin and long jump.

Catherine Tiernan Bell tested herself in some uncharted territory as she raced across the line to take silver in her 200m category, while Rebecca Carolan won gold medals in both her 200m and 400m races.

Cormac O’Gibne ran a super 11:48.12 to finish second in the Junior Men’s 3,000m, as did Lorcan Hughes in the Junior Men’s 800m race, while Jonathan McCabe took gold in the javelin.

Niamh Kelly won a silver medal in the long jump and gold in the shot putt, while veteran Deirdre McTeggart also took to the field to contest the shot putt and finished second in her category.

The 100m sprints finished off the event, with Eddie Kennedy taking gold in a time of 12.37sec and Jamie Bull also winning his category, with Rebecca Carolan second in hers.

Meanwhile, Boyne AC have launched their inaugural Harry Mallon Memorial 4-Mile Road Race which will take place on September 16th at 7pm, starting from the Donore Road Industrial Estate.
