Kim’s best of the Irish
FLOGAS-SPONSORED competitor Kimberley Irwin from Drogheda has had an action-packed few weeks, with individual and team success at four major international clay pigeon shooting tournaments held in Ireland.
Kimberley and the Irish ladies team won a bronze medal at both the DTL European and World Clay Pigeon Championships which ran concurrently at Esker Shooting Grounds in Banagher, Galway.
Kimberley shot a personal best score of 296 out of 300 on day one of the World Championships and took sixth place overall, the highest ranked member of the Irish team.
She was also a member of the Irish team that took second place at the British Open at Banbridge in County Down. Kimberley not only won her class, which was open to both male and female competitors, she was also the best female shot in the team event and fourth-placed lady overall in the tournament with a score of 295 ex 300, hitting a remarkable 99 out of 100 clay targets.
The Irish team were also runners-up in the Ladies section of the DTL Home International at the same venue. England won the ladies team event with a score of 1,149 ex 1,200, to Ireland’s 1,138 ex 1,200, with Scotland third, Northern Ireland fourth and Wales fifth.
Commenting on her successes, Kimberley said: ‘We’re very proud of the results achieved by the Irish team at the four championships. They were formidable, given the high level of skill on display and the greater population of shooters that the opposing countries can draw upon.
‘My thanks to Flogas for making my dream of competing on the world stage possible. Their support has been amazing for me.’
