OFF TO THE ISLE OF MAN - BY WATER SKI

- By HUBERT MURPHY

THREE water ski enthusiasts are to take on a daring journey to the Isle of Man on September 10th - all in aid of the SOSAD charity.

Liam Reilly, Derek Lynch and Brian Connolly will water ski the whole way - some 60 nautical miles.

‘It’s hard going on the legs!,’ Derek exclaimed. He did the same trip 20 years ago.

The trio will leave from under Scotch Hall bridge at noon on Saturday September 10th.

Already Keatings Topaz in Navan have come on board and will sponsor the fuel for the trip.

‘We would love to get as many sponsors as possible,’ Liam Reilly stated. They hope to get each leg of the journey, which could take up to four hours, sponsored.

The trio have been taking to the water at Mornington for the past number of weeks in preparation for the journey. The launch of the event is on August 6th in Odd Mollies .

THREE daring water ski enthusiasts are to take on a daring journey to the Isle of Man on September 10th - gliding gracefully over the Irish Sea.

Liam Reilly, Derek Lynch and Brian Connolly will water ski the whole way - some 60 nautical miles.

And they are doing it for the SOSAD charity.

Derek did the last water ski challenge to the island about 20 years ago for the Drogheda River Rescue.

‘It’s hard going on the legs!,’ he exclaimed.

This time the trio, with support vessels in tow, will leave from under Scotch Hall bridge at noon on Saturday September 10th.

Already Keatings Topaz in Navan have come on board and will sponsor the fuel for the trip.

‘It is likely to take about four hours, if the weather is fair, maybe less than that,’ Liam, a teacher in Our Lady’s Greenhills, stated.

The trio have been taking to the water at Mornington for the past number of weeks in preparation for the journey.

While Derek and Liam have been water skiing for some years now, Brian is relatively new to the sport.

‘What we’d love is for a business to sponsor each of our legs of the journey. We’ll put their logos on the t-shirts and take a picture of us in action, in the middle of the Irish Sea,’ Liam adds.

Other sponsors are also welcome to be part of the effort.

The launch of the event is on August 6th in Odd Mollies with music by Hoodwink.

There will be a raffle and auction and all funds are going to SOSAD.

Liam was quick to point out that they intend taking the boat back from the Isle of Man, rather than skiing home!

‘We’ll have a welcome back event in Clarkes on the Sunday too,’ he explained.

Michelle Breen said they were delighted that the lads offered to do the epic trip for SOSAD’s funds.

‘It’s a great idea and we hope to get as many sponsors as possible,’ she explained.

Michelle can be contacted at 0894729646.
