Moneymore arson as car set on fire

A local family had a lucky escape after their car was set on fire in the driveway of their home.

The incident happened in the Moneymore estate on Sunday, July 30th.

Emergency Services were called to the scene of blaze in the early hours of Monday morning and had to work fast to avoid the blaze spreading to a nearby house. wo front windows were broken from the heat of the fire. It is believed that only for the quick action of the fire service the fire could have spread quickly to the nearby house.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have any informatio­n on this incident to please come forward.

Meanwhile, a local garda was taken to hospital last week after he was assaulted during the course of an arrest.

The incident happened on Monday, July 25th last at Crushrod Avenue.

Gardaí were called to the scene after a man in his 20s was found trespassin­g in a garden. In the process of being arrested he assaulted one of the gardaí on the scene. The garda was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

A man in his 50s was arrested in Ballsgrove after passers by noticed he was carrying a 12 inch knife and reported the incident to gardaí. The man, who is well known to gardaí, was arrested on Thursday, July 28th after he was found in an intoxicate­d and agitated state while in possession of a large knife.

The man was arrested and brought to Drogheda Garda Station where he was questioned.

A spokespers­on for the gardaí thanked the members of the public who contacted them in relation to this incident.
