McEntee a popular choice for Meath job
THE ratification of Andy McEntee Ena as Meath senior football team manager in succession to Mick O’Dowd was met with unanimous approval by delegates at Monday night’s County Committee meeting in Seneschalstown.
The Nobber native, who led Ballyboden St Endas to All-Ireland Club glory last March, has been given a three-year term.
McEntee’s brother Gerry, the double All-Ireland-winning midenny),
midfielder, Donal Curtis (Rathkenny), and Finian Murtagh (O’Mahony’s)) were ratifiedtifi d as selectors.
Six candidates were nominated for the position. There were two withdrawals and the four remaining were interviewed - Andy McEntee, Sean Barry (Simonstown), Ciaran Conlon (St Michael’s) and John O’BrienO’Brie (Curraha). TheT interview committee consistedcon of Conor Tormey, PePeter O’Halloran, Jim Mullery, leMullery, Liam Keane and Mick LLyons. Chairman Conor TTormey said the interview committee met with Kilkenny senior hurling cocoach Michael Dempsey to get his expertise and knoknowledge on selecting a manamanager. They also met with senior player reprepresentatives Donal Keogan and Donnacha Tobin. ThThe new manager was wished well in his role, while tributes were also paid to Mick O’Dowd, manager for the past four years, who was thanked for his hard work and dedication throughout his term.
