LOCAL STUDENTS REACTION TO THEIR LEAVING CERT RESULTS

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

Principals throughout the region were also breathing a sigh of relief last week as the results across the board were largely positive. There were few surprises this year - and no nasty shocks as on the whole, most students were happy with their results and the way the papers were marked.

Principal of Drogheda Grammar School, Hugh Baker commented: ‘ In general the results were well received and the usual mixture of joy, relief and anxiety as students move on to wondering about points and third level education.’

He said almost half of the Leaving Cert students in the Grammar school received over 400 points and said this was: ‘A reflection of all the hard work, encouragement and extra classes and help our teachers give.

‘But its not just about the high achievers and we were delighted to see all our students achieve their potential, in particular for those whom the exams were a struggle,’ he added.

‘It is a relief and pleasure to see them move on to the next stage of their education and life knowing we have done our best and they have too. We wish them the very best fo luck and will always be proud of them.’

Sacred Heart School Principal, Leoni Carroll said they were equally as pleased with the results in the school.

‘We are extremely proud of our Leaving Certificate students’ wonderful results and wish them every success in their chosen career paths,’ she commented.

Fiona Kinahan from Scoil Uí Mhuirí in Dunleer, meanwhile, said the majority of their A1 grades were in construction, engineering, technology.
