Stabannon eyeing another victory

-

THE second round of matches in the Louth Ladies Senior Championship took place at the weekend and Geraldines’s win against St Kevin’s places them alongside Stabannon Parnells at the top of Group A.

Stabannon take on St Kevin’s this Wednesday in Philipstown and hope to continue on their winning ways, while the Geraldines host the Newtown Blues in a crunch encounter next Sunday.

Cooley KIckhams are leading the way in Group B with full points, with St Mochta’s and St Patrick’s jointly in second. Next Sunday’s match takes on special significance, with the winner of the Mochtas/Pats game taking second place to the already qualified Cooley Kickhams.

In Intermediate, St Bride’s are in pole position in Group A for qualification to the semi-finals, with Naomh Mairtin and Glyde Rangers also in contention.

With the final round of fixtures next Sunday the Brides just need a point against Naomh Mairtin, while Glyde Rangers need a result against Kilkerley Emmets to have a chance of progression.

Should St Bride’s lose and the Mairtins and Glyde win there will be a three-way tie for qualification to the semi-finals as the Brides are the only team with their destiny in their own hands.

In Group B both the Dreadnots and St Fechin’s have qualified for the semi-finals as both have won their matches against Naomh Fionnbarra. Their final game against each other will determine their opposition in the semi-final.

The first round of the Junior Championship took place on Sunday, with Mattock Rangers having a good win against Clan na Gael, while Geraldines B were given a walkover as Cuchulainn Gaels were unable to play and the O Raghallaigh’s have yet to feature.

Senior Group A: Geraldines 5-13 St Kevins 1-7; Group B: Cooley Kickhams 3-14 St. Patricks 1-9, St Mochtas 2-12 Roche Emmets/Na Piarsaigh 2-6. Intermediate Group A: Glyde Rangers 0-10 St Brides 3-9, Naomh Mairtin w/o Kilkerley Emmets; Group B: Naomh Fionnbarra 1-6 St Fechins 8-9. Junior: Clan na Gael 5-5 Mattock Rangers 6-14, Geraldines B w/o Cuchulainn Gaels.
