Goals galore in Minor Championship ties

-

However, Nigy Hand added another goal, and despite a good response from Walterstown points late on from Hand, Mark Phelan and Sean Keogh sealed the win for the combination team. Cathal Finnegan, Seneschalstown got their defence of the Division 3 Minor Football Championship off to the best of starts in Longwood.

Over the course of the hour Finnegan turned in a virtuoso performance as he hit three goals and four points, all of which came from open play. MARK KELLY struck with two goals in the last six minutes as Killary Emmets saw off the stiff challenge of Kilbride in the MFC at Castletown.

Kilbride had led 2-7 to 0-10 with 10 minutes remaining, but they only managed a single point after that and Eoin Lynch Duff narrowed the gap before Kelly pounced for his opening goal. Kilbride responded with a point at the other end to gain parity, but four minutes from the finish substitute Cathal Duff intercepted a poor kickout and set Kelly up for the winning score. DESPITE being down to 14 players Drumconrath/Meath Hill produced a fine second-half display to overcome the St Patrick’s/St Mary’s combination in the MFC at Meath Hill.

Paddy Matthews scored the opening-half goal as the north Meath side came from behind to be level at the half-way point, 1-6 to 0-9.

Daniel Byrne accounted for four points in the half as Robbie McEntaggart was dismissed on receipt of a second yellow card just before the break.

The visitors scored the opening three points of the second half before they were reeled in by a Byrne goal.

The hosts dominated after that with a succession of points and two further goals from Byrne and Paul Carolan left the home side firmly in control.
