Young players’ skill earns high praise
FR Joe Heffernan paid tribute to the teenage players in the Greenhills club as he presented prizes for the Juvenile Summer League and Creative Skills competition recently.
In his address, Fr Joe stated that he was a very keen bowler himself and it was very refreshing to see 15-year-olds showing great tactical awareness and their creative skills at such a young age. He added that he would encourage young people to give the game a try. Captain Peter Woods stated it was great credit to the juniors who performed to such a high standard and played superb bowls. It was a joy to watch over the last six weeks.
The captain thanked Fr Joe for taking time out to present the prizes, the juveniles for participating in the tournament, the umpires for officiating in the games and the ladies for providing the refreshments throughout the tournament.
The winner of the Juvenile Summer League was Sophie Thornberry, with Megan Devin second and Karl Thornberry third. The winner of the creative skills competition was Ciara Floyd, with Oliver Clutterbuck in second.
