Sub Deasy right back in contention

-

‘Gareth did the hard work for the goal. He saw some ball in the first half and was getting it stuck under his foot a little bit, and then in the second half, lucky enough he got a nice little turn, ran at the defence and gave it to Griff.

‘He nearly took it off Griff, but then Griff put it away, so fair play to him. Griff has been working hard this season and it’s good to see him scoring.

‘The red card was controversial. The two lads were mouthing and then they both went for the nut and the ref send off Gareth.

‘It’s something that Gareth needs to look at. He said sorry to the boys in there, and he’ll have to show his worth in training to get back in the starting team. But I think he will show that because he’s done that since he’s come on loan.’

Deasy himself has had injury troubles this year - he fractured his metatarsal early on in the season - but is now setting his sights on playing a big part in the business end of the season. ‘HopefHopefully I can finish tthe last few gamegames and we can get the last foufour league wiwins, the gagames that rereally matter. ThThat’s what PetPete keeps sayisaying - we don’t want to get into must-win games, jusjust keep winning. ning

‘We’ve got Shelbourne this week and if we can get out in the first few minutes and start well we should have the game for them.’

Overall, Under-19 international Deasy has been delighted so far with his time at United Park, which followed a spell with the Southampton academy and St Patrick’s Athletic Under-19s.

‘The season has gone good and it’s been a great move. Pete and Mark [Kinsella] and Giller [John Gill] have great, enjoyable training sessions, and we’re all getting the benefit out of it, and I’d include the sports science guy Gerry Kelly who’s getting us all fit and ready for the push in the last few games.

‘Next season we want to be up [playing in the Premier Division]. Let’s get into the play-offs, and then it’s those games in the play-offs where you have to drag out a result because it can go either way.’
