-

The Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council Cllr. Paul Bell has been joined by the Municipal and Borough District Cathaoirleig and Mayor Cllr. Oliver Tully, Cllr. Mark Deery, and Cllr. Delores Minogue in congratulating all involved in securing six medals for Louth Communities when the results of this year’s Super Value Tidy Towns competition were announced on Monday.

Gold medals were awarded to Drogheda, Dundalk, Blackrock and Tallantstown while the Town of Ardee and village of Knockbridge picked up a well earned Bronze medal for all the hard work exercised by tidy town groups.

A total of twenty four town and villages were adjudicated on for this year’s competition and the ever increasing standard of the competition is evident when you visit any of the participating communities. All twenty four entries saw an increase in the scores demonstrating that communities are continuing to find ways to improve the places they live.

Chairperson of Drogheda Tidy Towns Committee Cllr Kevin Callan said that he was absolutely delighted and thrilled with the results which have all improved on last years where the Town also received gold.

“I extend my congratulations to everyone in Drogheda who has gotten up and gone out and helped improve our towns appearance in their estates, streets and entry roads, I also thank all of the businesses who have made an effort. I sincerely thank the Tidy Towns Committee, the staff and management of Louth County Council for a great job this year. We need to continue to build on this years success and improve our town as not only a place to live and work, but also as the tourist destination it has been becoming in the last few years”.

A number of areas showed a continued big improvement with Julianstown just seven short of the magical 300 while Slane shot up to 305 from 296, suggesting they are real title contenders inside the next decade.

The scores: Drogheda 312, Dundalk 309, Baltray 236, Clogherhead 271, Monasterboice 233, Termonfeckin 244, Tullyallen 283, Drumconrath 220, Duleek 237, Julianstown 293, Laytown 238, Slane 305, Stamullen 228.
