Duleek pass ‘Ayr’ test with flying colours

DULEEK completed a fine weekend for local sides in the Leinster Junior Cup when they overcame AUL Premier A table-toppers Ayrfield in an exciting tie at the Tollstone on Sunday.
The home team started brighter against a big Ayrfield side and they eventually made it count when Conor Branigan beat the opposition full-back and found Cormac Reid who volleyed in from 15 yards at the back post.
Ayrfield drew level from the penalty spot following a trip in the box and the sides went in level at the half-way point.
The Meath side started the second half well and the pressure paid off when the marauding Sean Kennedy won a free kick which was fired home from 25 yards by Branigan.
Then Reid got onto the end of a Daniel Martin knock-on and finished calmly past the Ayrfield keeper for his second - 3-1.
Ayrfield pulled one back from a goalmouth scramble following a long throw-in, but as they pressed for an equaliser in a bid to force extra time, Duleek took advantage of gaps at the back and a slick move ended with Branigan chipping the keeper for his second goal of the game.
