Greene lights up ‘Rock with runner-up finish

THE in-form Darragh Greene produced another fine performanc­e in the Dunleer AC colours when finishing second at the Stephen Carroll Blackrock 4-Mile Road Race on Saturday night.

Greene dipped under 20 minutes with a time of 19:58 in the senior nen’s race and his clubmate Patrick Fitzpatric­k was 10th overall and second Over-40 in 22:46, with Anthony Connolly and Garreth Murray also running well.

Fit4Life athlete Liam Healy came home in 29:47, while his Fit4Life teammates produced some fine runs too.

On Sunday the action was in Stamullen for the annual Star of the Sea Cross-Country event and again the Dunleer AC athletes did not disappoint, with great performanc­es from juveniles and seniors.

Jack Mc Cullough was delighted to win the Boys Under-17 Perpetual Cup - becoming the first Dunleer man to do so and following in the footsteps of the inaugural winner Colin Costello.

Other highlights were a onetwo for Erinn Leavy and Lucy Sheridan in the Girls Under-11 section where Dunleer won team gold thanks to their efforts in conjunctio­n with Vanessa Brennan.

The Boys Under-13 race was won by James Russell, with his teammates Tiernán Rowley, Blake Kennedy and Patrick Farrell all finishing in the top seven to give them a clear team victory.

Theresa Russell had a fine third-place finish in the Girls Under-15 race, while Karen Costello finished fourth senior lady after running 1hr 30min for the half-marathon distance in Edinburgh recently.
